Physical activity should initially be limited to prevent prolonging recovery and from sustaining another concussion. A person recovering from a concussion is at risk of sustaining another concussion. Physical activity may put the person at risk for falling or receiving another hit to the head or body. For example: running activities, gymnastics, team sports, use of climbing equipment, etc. should be restricted.
Because every concussion is unique, seek advice from a medical professional to determine the level of physical activity in which the person can participate. This can include getting a medical assessment and the required written medical clearance from a medical professional.
The person should be able to tolerate regular activities. However, any activity that involves more physical exertion, such as hiking or running, should be avoided until written medical clearance is obtained for increasing physical activity.
